Financial support from the Gene Haas Foundation will create opportunities for engineering students at Arkansas Tech University beginning this fall.

A $15,000 grant from the Gene Haas Foundation to the ATU Foundation will support scholarships and serve as a sponsorship for ATU Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) student competition teams.

“By providing scholarship grants, sponsoring individual and team computer numerical control (CNC) competitions and partnering with the very best CNC training programs in the world, the foundation helps expand the availability of high-quality manufacturing technology training worldwide,” reads a statement from the Gene Haas Foundation website.

Arkansas Tech SAE students earned national acclaim in 2019 when they finished seventh overall in the internal combustion engine division of the Shell Eco-marathon Americas challenge.

The ATU car achieved 993 miles per gallon during the competition, a 368 percent increase over one year earlier.

The Gene Haas Foundation was established in 1999 by Haas Automation Inc. and is named for the organization’s founder and chief executive officer. Over the past 22 years, the Gene Haas Foundation has donated more than $100 million in support of manufacturing training programs.
