THIS MAN QUNTONIO HERRON IS , CHARGED WITH TWO COUNTS OF HOMICIDE BY VEHICLE SERIOUS INJURY BY VEHICLE LEAVING THE SCENE OF AN ACCIDENT RESULTING IN DEATH, AND DRIVING WITH A DENIED LICENSE. HERRON IS BEING HELD IN THE POLK COUNTY JAIL. YOU’LL RECALL THAT JERRY COLES AND KRISTY HYDE DIED ON MONDAY NIGHT WHEN THEY WERE HIT WHILE RIDING THEIR MOTORCYCLES AT EAST 14TH AND WASHINGTON. A 29-year-old Des Moines man faces multiple charges in a crash that killed two motorcyclists and seriously injured another.The crash, which involved two motorcycles and a vehicle, occurred after 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in the area of East 14th Street and Washington Avenue. Police said 51-year-old Jerry Coles and 47-year-old Kristy Hyde died in the crash. Stacey Coles-Behle, 46, survived the crash but suffered serious injuries.On Friday, Des Moines police announced charges in the case. Quntonio Herron, 29, is charged with two counts of homicide by vehicle – reckless driving, serious injury by vehicle – reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident causing death, driving while license suspended.“Witness statements, and preliminary examination of evidence at the scene, indicates that the passenger car, a 2016 Mercedes-Benz, involved was traveling northbound on E. 14th Street at what appeared to be a high rate of speed. The two motorcycles involved were southbound on E. 14th Street and turning eastbound on Washington Avenue,” police said through a news release. “The Mercedes-Benz struck the motorcycles within the intersection. The Mercedes-Benz continued northbound until it crashed into a utility pole, shearing it off at the ground, and came to a stop. Witnesses reported that multiple persons got out of the crashed Mercedes-Benz and ran from the scene.”Herron is being held in the Polk County Jail.Police said the crash remains under investigation.Check the KCCI Breaking News and Weather App for updates on this developing story.
