Heat Wave Boosts Business for New Hope Auto Repair Shop

The early-June heat wave is a bust for some motorists but a boost for an auto repair shop in New Hope.

The owners of Kurth’s Auto Repair in New Hope say their phones are ringing off the hook with people trying to get their air conditioners fixed. Mechanics at the shop have averaged three-to-seven AC repairs per day since the extreme temps started last week.

“Our business has increased about 20-30 percent since the heat wave kicked in with the AC repairs,” said Calvin Smith, co-owner of Kurth’s Auto Repair.

Smith says there are several reasons for the cool air to stop blowing in your vehicle. They include a lack of refrigerant or a possible problem with the condenser. Prices vary if your ride needs an air conditioner recharge because it all depends on the year and make of your vehicle.

“With an older vehicle, it could range from about $145 up to $200. Newer vehicles typically start around the $450 area and can go as high as $700,” explained Smith.

Experts say you can prevent AC problems by getting routine maintenance on your vehicle, like regular oil changes where mechanics can check for leaks.

“They’re able to identify a quick leak ahead of time and able to repair that so that it doesn’t completely fail,” said Smith.
